Floating into the screening room in a flowery sundress and diamond studded sandals beamed Sex and the City‘s biggest fan: miss Emma Farquharson of Mushy Pony. Leading the way in front of her, was her granola chewing, water-canteen carrying older sister: Vanessa Farquharson of the National Post. With each sibling having conflicting opinions of the infamous Carrie Bradshaw, it seemed only suitable for them to break down this sequel together and agree upon its verdict. Here is their review:

In the first movie, we were engulfed in an emotional hurricane of cheating scandals, friendship betrayals, wedding disasters, and pregnancy woes. We learned about forgiveness and the power of getting through a crisis with the help of your friends. We saw Carrie at her best, and at her worst.

In the second movie, we saw her go on an extravagant holiday to Abu Dhabi.

Okay there was a little more to it than that. But plot wise, and we won’t give anything away, it just wasn’t as gripping. The film seemed to be at its best when cutting to a closeup shot of Charlotte’s Christian Louboutins. The fashion was stellar, and at some points mesmerizing – but wardrobe simply cannot Carrie a film. So what are the girls up to now? Samantha spent 70% of the film in menopause, Miranda lost her cynical demeanour, Charlotte still loves her perfect family, and Mrs. Preston is happily married. In short, they’re getting old.

Besides the lack of drama, we were presented with various subplots that went nowhere. The big, gay wedding between Standford and Anthony, the constant pestering as to why Carrie and Big weren’t having children, and the spouts of factual information on Islamic culture.

And Big. Mister Big. Mister Commitment-phobic, dark and devious, heartwarming heartbreaker – what happened to you? You turned into this loving devoted husband who does no wrong. Well sorry, but it’ll take more than a 2-hour sequel for you to convince us of that. Not after you put us through seven years of sitting by the TV with tears dripping into our Kimchi over you.

But for those (like Emma) who don’t want to read anything negative about Sex and the City 2, here’s where the movie won: Liza Minnelli doing the Single Ladies dance, Charlotte getting camel toe, Carrie wearing a blouse with nipple tassels, and Samantha’s line: “He’s the Lawrence of my labia!” Moments like these made us smile, because quite simply, it was good to be with our girls again. No matter how old they are.

Earth Day started somewhat pathetic. Forgetting that it was today, we took part in our usual 20-minute shower while running the faucet for our kitten to drink. We then ironed our hair, whitened our teeth, blended a smoothie, etc. until noticing the headlines in the paper. Oops.

But Mother Nature is a forgiving woman – one who understands that because the Cowgirls work from home, we don’t need to drive anywhere, print things, or do very much at all actually. Either way, we thought we’d jot down a list for those who don’t really want to go hardcore on this:

1. We’ll re-read Sleeping Naked is Green, written by fellow Cowgirl – Vanessa Farquharson.

2. We’ll not pick up after our pup (therefore saving plastic bags).

3. We’ll keep the lights out indoors seeing as the day is so sunny and beautiful.

4. We’ll not blast the Miley Cyrus quite as loud as usual.

5. We’ll not be chewing gum.

6. We’ll use our water canteen.

7. Our puppy will use his water canteen.

8. We won’t print any bank receipts.

9. In fact, we don’t even need to go to the bank today.

10. We’ll burn our bank statements instead.

11. We’ll ride our bike. (Motorized yes, but better than a car).

12. We’ll hug a tree.

13. We’ll not open any champagne.

14. We’ll not watch any TV tonight (going out instead).

15. We cannot bring ourselves to wear any green or brown, but will smile at those who do.

16. We’ll eat at the latest it-restaurant, Earth.

17. We’ll think of words that rhyme with ‘Earth’. Worth, mirth, birth, girth…

18. We’ll sing the song “Worms make dirt” by the Aquabats.

19. We’ll wear our Birkenstocks.
