Over the past year, we’ve followed our unemployed columnist, comedian John Hastings, as he explores the ups and downs of Toronto culture. Now, he’s finally gotten himself a job as the headlining act at Yuk Yuks downtown, and it seemed only crucial that we ask him about how he’s preparing for the big day. EPISODE 18: Seriously Sober.
First off, we all are aware of the fact that I love drinking. Not in that funnel guzzling, beer pong playing, blonde waitress humping kind of way – I am a respectable man who likes booze because it makes me feel like an adult. An adult who needs to drink enough to encourage pissing off a bridge onto a friend who is pissing onto a car under said bridge. Recently however, something started to go off track. I will not bore you with details, but after partaking in a 3-day hangover, I thought it was time for a break.

Okay, so it’s been a while since I opened my laptop and typed out some dribble for you ponies. So what have I been doing? I’m so glad you asked. I have been to a wedding, to Montreal, and to Ottawa for the fifth time in four weeks. Speaking of which, I’ve always found telling jokes to young Republicans forces me to adjust the narrative slightly. When my adventures exploring the mean streets of Toronto include dancing like a monkey for free beer – it just doesn’t have the same effect on them for some reason.
