Why burlap sacks bring artwork to our cold and snowy city.

Artists have created installation pieces before by wrapping up various buildings or objects in order to create something new; a sculptural piece unrelated to its original form. But in urban Canada, we’ve been creative every winter without any fanfare or media blitz to motivate us. While caring for our trees, bushes, hedges or other plants, we wrap them in burlap to protect them from the harsh Winter winds. But when tied or stapled to wood, new structures emerge resembling tepees, boulders, tents, or even umbrellas. They represent the care shown to other species – something to look at with no admission fee required. Check it out:
