Deserting Your Dessert Recipes.

How to fake your way through making a delectable and impressive dessert.

Dessert’s a bitch to make. All the measuring and timing and fussing only to end up with something that disappoints the eyes as well as the palate. A good go-to is berries with whipped cream – drizzle some maple syrup on top or crushed Skor bar and you’re good to go. However, if you want to try something that really looks good and is incredibly easy to make, then try one of these instead:

Muskoka Must-Haves.

When visiting a friend, do you pack Kit Kat or Quinoa? Beefaroni or beets?

Courtesy of Samantha and Caillianne Beckerman

Recently, we found ourselves standing in the junk-food aisle at Loblaws while our health-conscious pony friends meandered around the freshly tossed, freshly spritzed fennel aisle. We were en route to Muskoka – a friend was hosting our company and we’d promised to bring sustenance. Problem was, we were stumped on what to bring.

Diners for Dinner

Licks can lick our…nevermind. Try these places instead:

The Senator

Toronto’s oldest restaurant at 86 years old, the Senator has been the it-restaruant for pre-theatre munchies. Right across from the Panasonic Theatre and steps away from Massey Hall, be sure to check this place out. The last time they renovated was in the early sixties, and we doubt the menu has ever changed. They have original home-style meatloaf that’s to die for, and a mac ‘n’ cheese that’s “full of stuff” as they put it. They’ll even offer free licorice on your way out. It’s cute, fun, and friendly. And guess what else? Only one menu item is over $20.

The Swan Restaurant
892 Queen St. W

A Queen West gem, the Swan is another small, cute fifties diner. Open late hours – it’s great for some grub before the Drake, or a quick meal after some shopping around Trinity Park. Prices are reasonable, and the service is sweet. Their cuisine is a little more modern than the typical diner-grub, so head here if the décor is your main objective.
