When barbecuing, the standard side-dish normally involves a few spinach leaves topped with vinaigrette. Not bad, but not great either. Next time you find yourself trotting down the produce aisle, grab some asparagus or green beans instead – it’s time to boil down the facts on a properly blanched salad.

A fun theme for any dinner party with friends.

Two nights ago, the Cowgirls invited their artist friends over for a build-your-own pizza party. But knowing only how to open a bottle of wine, we were a little nervous about cooking five pizzas. Turns out it’s easy. Buy crusts (Summerhill Market makes the best ones, so don’t opt for Pillsbury) and fresh toppings of your choice, turn your stove to 450ΒΊ, cook for 15 minutes, and serve.
