It’s that time again ponies! We’ve done posts on graffiti, on signs, and even on burlap sacks – there is artwork to be seen everywhere in Toronto, you just need to be looking out for it. Today, we’d like to focus on some of the positive messages we’ve seen as of late – ones that make us smile as we pass by.

Toronto has banned kite flying in Milliken Park, and we’re bucking mad.

Councillor Chin Lee has single-handedly banned kite flying from Milliken Park (Scarborough) – apparently because of kite string litter. Anyone who breaks this law will now pay a fine of $100. Call us crazy, but aren’t there slightly more cigarette butts, gum packets, and plastic wrappers polluting our streets than kite strings? After nearly protesting by blanketing the park with tampon strings, we instead decided to take a deep breath and turn to our trusty steed. After all, the pony is mightier than the sword.

Altered street signs in Toronto make us stop and think.

The Cowgirls just love stumbling across gems like this in Toronto. Call it graffiti, call it whatever you want, but we love it. We saw the sign and it opened up our eyes.

Our interview with new media installation artist: Rich Gilbank.

What you’re looking at in the above photo isn’t a collection of Klu Klux Klan hats. Instead, they are Anthros: stationary tentacles that gravitate towards any person standing nearby. The artist behind this installation, Rich Gilbank, has incorporated technology (using human-centric applications) in order to create interactive artwork. The Cowgirls were totally blown away – seeing as they barely know how to turn on their laptop – so they decided to chat up this astute artist firsthand.
