Our Rodeo Rocker’s drunken interview with local hit, The Commandeers.
So I was sitting at Ronnie’s in Kensington, basking in the sun and getting ready to meet up-and-coming rock group: the Commandeers, when two giant Vikings (in town filming the prequel to John Carpenter’s “The Thing”) sat down and started feeding me beer. I couldn’t exactly get away from them because I abide by the moral maxim that one should never leave a beer unfinished. So needless to say, they got me wasted and told me to find the band’s balls when I interview them. Once I reluctantly agreed, they let me go without any raping or pillaging, and I made my way towards the interview for some much deserved shotgunning.

Our interview with the amazing Torontonian Pop/Folk singer: Jesse Labelle.
With the launch of his first album, Perfect Accident just around the corner, Jesse Labelle is over the moon. His music has already been compared to legendary artists such as John Mayer and Coldplay (his lyrics melting the hearts of everyone who hears them), but Jesse sets himself apart with a humble personality and personal devotion to his fan base. Together, the Cowgirls chatted with him about his inspiration, his favourite spots in Toronto, and yes – his past girlfriends.
Over the next while, one Cowgirl will take on Toronto in search of the quintessential party scene.
Lucky for her, in this multicultural city, there’s more than one! Along the way she will talk with many DJs, party planners and socialites, take one too many pictures and drag all her friends into the wee hours of the night. So, with a full tube of electric-red lipstick in hand and a final destination unknown, she programs her GPS to start off in Parkdale. This will be hard work, folks but after a few vodka tonics, things should get mushier.
First stop is the new, I-don’t-give-a-beep, DJ-owned hotspot, Wrongbar (1279 Queen St. W). With its acute taste in programming and no holds barred party atmosphere, Wrongbar is quickly becoming home to the better-looking, Queen West hipsters. Chatting with Meech, a household name at Wrongbar, who will be spinning this Saturday alongside owner, Nasty Nav and guest DJ, Hijack, from the UK. The plan is to kick off the night with the triumvirate – burger, fries and beer – at The Rhino (1249 Queen St. W) and then mosey on over.
Chatting with the newest, hottest electro-rap band in Toronto. Jealous much?

There’s a lot of mystique behind 84.85 – something members Jay Jolliffe and Colin Maciver are proud of. With no defined genre, or categorized venue, and with a name that easily confuses most people, it’s no wonder that this band is causing quite the stir. But we’ve decided to mix it up a bit, and ask Jay about this unique approach, as well as what his thoughts are on DJing in Toronto. Is it all just about the huge headphones and head-bobbing?
