This past weekend, the Cowgirls crewed at an international sailing regatta based in Kingston, ON – known as CORK. We’d never been in a race before, and yet miraculously we were scheduled to appear on two different J105‘s named Thunderstruck and Sonic Boom. We were then weighed, measured, and thrown aboard with our sea legs shaking – but still determined to maintain an even keel. And now, without any further embarrassing nautical puns, here is what we learned on our three-day excursion:

They’re hot, they’re funny as hell, and they’re fellow ponies! When we caught a glance into the lives of Side Pony Nation via Youtube, we laughed so hard our scrunchies came loose. Together, Lynn Moffatt and Tanya Casole-Gouveia have taken rap-pop to a refreshingly comedic level with catchy guitar riffs and spunky lyrics. Sitting down together, ponies alike, we asked these girls how they got started – seeing as they’re just getting started.

In high school, she’d been a member of the ‘freaks and geeks’ crowd. Partaking in a mish-mash of identification attempts: goth one year, bookworm the next, wannabe hippie the year after and a misfit cheerleader somewhere in-between. When she left however, the titles became less definitive, and the boy with the biceps wearing the Hollister shirt turned out to be just another passing stranger.
