EPISODE 4: Meeting Geddy Lee
Let me state for the record – I hate Rush. I hate the episode of Trailer Park Boys where Rush is mentioned, I always arrive early to beat the Rush, and I avoid standing up too fast to avoid head Rush. My hatred with this Canadian music legend began somewhere in my teens when my friend Bob would constantly play Fly By Night at full blast while defending the song’s sonic merits.
Now that my rambling introduction is over with, let me tell you why I still hate Rush but have started to like their lead singer: Geddy Lee. Today, I was reunited with my K9 companion from episode 1 (where dogs were pissing on their owners) and we decided to head to that post-apocalyptic paradise known as the Brick Works for some hardcore walking. We were heading down a dirt path when we stumbled upon a grumpy, yappy little dog who refused to engage in any pup-friendly, balloon knot sniffing. The old lesbian couple that were walking this furry Napoleon complex bent down to attend to their pup while explaining how it was old and hated pretty much everyone. It was at this moment that I realized this was not actually a lesbian couple, but lead singer Geddy Lee and his wife, Nancy Young.
I immediately debated kicking him in the teeth and peeing on him (as my companion taught me so well) while whistling YYZ. But as I brought my foot back to begin my attack, Geddy gazed up at me with those sappy eyes of his and said: “This dog has a puppy’s spirit just like you”. I froze, and placed my foot back down on the ground. You simply cannot hate someone who’s smoked enough pot in their life to make a statement like that to a perfect stranger. I bid adieu to Geddy and his wife and walked my furry friend (which will also be my new penis name) around the park.
