Our interview with the fabulous and inspiring Beckerman girls from Toronto.
You can’t help but be mesmerized by the Beckerman girls. Their wild and playful sense of style will warm your heart almost as much as their darling personalities do. The Cowgirls jumped at the opportunity to chat with Samantha, Caillianne and Chloe about their hit blog: Beckerman Bite Plate, as well as learn more about their signature style. But one thing’s for sure, you won’t ever see these girls rockin’ a pair of sporty yoga pants. At least not in public.
Pony: What made you decide to start the blog?
Beckermans: As fashion designers, we love styling and getting dressed up every day and simply having fun with our outfits! We thought it would be a great way to document our styles online. We’re also big collectors of vintage clothing and have been all over the world to different antique and vintage shows, so we have quite the assortment of pieces.
Pony: These pieces range from discount outlets to high end designer boutiques. How do you determine an investment piece from an everyday purchase?
Beckermans: We love buying vintage clothing and have really specific things that we look out for. Usually, its all about the fit, feel, or details of the piece. We love grunge, floral prints, leopard and safari inspired pieces. When we vintage hunt, we’re always on the search for vintage YSL and Patrick Kelly (but that’s really hard to find). Sometimes we get obsessed with a certain look from a designer collection (like a Dries Van Noten mustard mohair sweater) but instead of buying that one, we’ll head to Value Village instead and try to find something similar. Investment pieces and everyday purchases are like the same thing. We realized that if you splurge on a piece you aren’t wearing, then it really wasn’t an investment. Our blog has taught us to wear all of our amazing pieces that are typically saved for special events and just enjoy them because they’re only clothes
Pony: So what are some general rules you have then, when putting together an outfit?
Beckermans: One thing about our style is that we don’t have any rules. We love wearing colour and tying everything together with accessories. You can wear as many statement pieces together as you want as long as it makes you happy!
Pony: And how do you determine the settings and themes for each photo shoot?
Beckermans: We keep a camera in the trunk of our car in case we find a great location. That way we can get out and shoot any time we want. Our friends and family are also always on the lookout for fabulous places with great blog walls. Blog walls are painted murals, graffiti, or colourful backgrounds that we can use.
Pony: How has your personal style changed over the years?
Beckermans: In high school we were hippies, ravers, and little goth punks. It has changed to an eclectic mix of grunge, punk, 70s, 80s, and even 90s! Now we wear everything and try to experiment with lots of styles, looks, and hairdos.
Pony: What’s your advice to those afraid to experiment with fashion?
Beckermans: Do whatever makes you comfortable! Fashion is about looking good and feeling good. If you want a little spice, wear some red lipstick.
Pony: Haha, are there any days where you just toss on a pair of LuLu Lemons and a hoodie?
Beckermans: We never wear yoga pants in public! Only if we are coming from the gym. Our relaxed look is usually ripped jeans and Oxfords.
Pony: What’s your biggest indulgence, fashion wise?
Beckermans: Probably buying designer shoes! Even though we always buy them on sale, you still get that rush of “OMG! SHOES!”
Pony: Speaking of rushes, which stores in Toronto do it for you?
Beckermans: Gadabout Vintage, Holt Renfrew Last Call, Burberry, Vintage Mix on Ossington, and the Christie Classic Antique Show.
Pony: You attended Branksome Hall. How would you change their uniform if given full control?
Beckermans: We would make the primary colour canary yellow plaid instead of the dark green – and add some posh hats. It would look like a British school girl uniform (like the Madeline cartoon) and be inspired by Alicia Silverstone from Clueless.
Pony: Love it! So what’s next for the blog? Or for you?
Beckermans: We are going to open an online store! And it’s going to have lots of amazing vintage and Beckerman clothing! We are super excited, it’s going to launch in the next few months!
To see what the girls are up to now, head to Beckerman Bite Plate or shop their store at Beckermans.com!

Don’t you need to possess a good B in the social sciences to manage a blog similar to this?
Thanks for this great article. It contains whole lot details which I need. I’m going to bookmark your site by my next stop by.
Successful individuals aren’t born that way. These people become productive by building the habit of performing things unsuccessful folks don’t like to do
But for you this is not the case. I mean, there are pics that are often daring (often when there are girls and dildos around). But daring and gross are two different things. I dont know how your personality is for real (maybe you are reading and not understanding why the strange guy here is saying such foolness -actually the real personality of models is a total mystery for me-) and the extent to which your blog represent your personal convictions (including the fact that you may have to broker compromise with your agent if you have any, I suppose). But the pictures you make are a combination of cuteness, sexyness (omg does this word exist), and hum I dont know, but I think that this I dont know is what makes you different (lol, all that fuss for that). I mean, I would be more interested in hugging you than in other things (and its not only because I wont fool my girlfriend, I swear), if I were to be allowed to meet you. I mean, when I see your pics I also figure I can smell the freshness of your skin (something between the rose and the milk), the softness of your breath, and things like that, things that are not supposed to be on the pic. Actually I may find an artistic element in your pics, though it may not be intented to be such. Moreover I also think that hum in these pics there is a joie de vivre that I find nowhere else.(I think thats not a surprise if I tell that I even prefer suggestive pics where you are not naked than others For instance I remember a set where you are wearing a kind of big black tunique with a cross around your neck, I found it definitely nice).Actually, I also appreciate that in your blog the sexual element, though important, is not omnipresent. Sometimes just posting things like le condom is funnier.
