You’re young and active…and broken. Our Veterinarian will guide you the way.

First things first, have you broken something?  Let’s be honest – it hurts like hell. Something in the leg or foot probably means that you can’t walk. With the arms, it’s a little more difficult to tell but if the pain is severe enough, you’ll probably end up in the ER waiting for an X-ray. If it isn’t a fracture then you’ll be dealing with the long list of sprains and strains as muscles, tendons and ligaments get torn. Here’s what to do:

Have yourself some rice. Not so much the sushi-breed, but R.I.C.E.  (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation). And next? Take Advil which is an anti-inflammatory and will help with the pain and reduce the inflammation. Remember to do this at the recommended dose of  400mg 4x per day which will ensure that it acts as an anti-inflammatory as well as an analgesic.

Things need time to heal, so make sure that you rest the injured body part. But if you’re active, you will want to know how to get back on track fast.

Toronto has lots of Sports Clinics that are run by G.P.’s who are sub-specialised in sports injuries.  Since they are G.P.’s , you don’t need a referral to go see one so check out the list below and make a call to arrange an appointment (I strongly recommend keeping this list for future reference). They can arrange any necessary imaging, recommend exercises, inject joints and decide whether you should do physiotherapy. They can also refer you to a surgeon if that’s required.

You will be back on your feet in no time.
