Licks can lick our…nevermind. Try these places instead:
The Senator
249 Victoria St.

Toronto’s oldest restaurant at 86 years old, the Senator has been the it-restaruant for pre-theatre munchies. Right across from the Panasonic Theatre and steps away from Massey Hall, be sure to check this place out. The last time they renovated was in the early sixties, and we doubt the menu has ever changed. They have original home-style meatloaf that’s to die for, and a mac ‘n’ cheese that’s “full of stuff” as they put it. They’ll even offer free licorice on your way out. It’s cute, fun, and friendly. And guess what else? Only one menu item is over $20.
The Swan Restaurant
892 Queen St. W

A Queen West gem, the Swan is another small, cute fifties diner. Open late hours – it’s great for some grub before the Drake, or a quick meal after some shopping around Trinity Park. Prices are reasonable, and the service is sweet. Their cuisine is a little more modern than the typical diner-grub, so head here if the décor is your main objective.
Easy Restaurant
1645 Queen St. W.
A biker’s dream! Head to West Queen West, and head west from there. You’ll find yourself nearing the end of Queen St. and surrounded by amazing antique and vintage stores. Amongst them is Easy. The diner atmosphere is great, with all-day breakfast that’s possibly the town’s best. But more amazing is the biker memorabilia on all the walls around you. A perfect spot for a first date; you’ll have lots to talk about.
Lakeview Restaurant
1132 Dundas St. W.

The newest it-restaurant in Toronto on Dundas West, Lakeview is much bigger than the other diners mentioned. They’re always open, as their sign indicates – so after a long night at Jezebel across the street, grabbing some of their amazing poutine at 3 a.m. helps cure next morning hangovers. Every day they offer a $4 pint of a local draft beer, which goes great with their signature club sandwich. For dessert? Get a milkshake. They’re the best in town, particularly the chocolate, banana, peanut-butter milkshake. Drooling yet?
Happy Dining!

I’ve been wanting to try the new-and-possibly-improved Lakeview for months now… didn’t know they had poutine and cheap draft, but that’s definitely an incentive.
